Ithaca Beer Co. Flower Power IPA

Ithaca Beer Co. is located in Ithaca, NY and they purchased their first brewing system back in December of 1997. Since then they have been brewing a great lineup of beers, including their Excelsior series of specialty brews in 750ml corked bottles. (Brute and Le Bleu are two great sour ales!!) Today I am sampling their IPA, Flower Power, thanks to my buddy Paul!

Pours into my glass a brilliant golden amber hue with a solid two fingers of creamy foam that leaves some spotty lacing as it falls. Definitely makes me want to drink it! Aromas of bright, fresh hops shine through. Citric, floral and herbaceous they rule the show here. Smooth malty backbone. Lovely and pungent.

First sip is bright hops upfront with more resinous citric and floral flavors flowing across the palate. Fresh and vibrant with a well balanced caramel malt backbone. Not overly bitter - but there's a nice bite on the way down and lingering hops on the finish. Well balanced, super tasty IPA. Yum.

Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied - super refreshing and easy drinking. Overall, this is just a great IPA and I wish I could obtain it easier!! Very glad to have finally had the opportunity to try it, thanks Lum!

Overall rating for this IPA is of the best I've tried!
