Two Brothers Northwind Imperial Stout
Two Brothers is located in Warrenville, IL and was started by brothers Jim and Jason Ebel back in 1996. Since then they have been consistently producing a wide range of tasty brews for the greater Chicago-land area and beyond. With a great line up of year-round beers, seasonal brews and their specialty Artisan series...they have a beer for every taste! They recently added a restaurant and tap house which features great food along with plenty of fresh Two Bros brew on tap! Tonight, I decided to sample their Northwind Imperial Stout...
2010 vintage Batch 2860:
Deep black pour with an inch of tan head on top of the brew. Good sticky patchwork lacing on the glass. Aromas of deep roasted malts with a big dark chocolate forefront. Coffee weaves in along with a touch of char.
First sip is dark roasted, charred malts flowing into dark chocolate along with a touch of coffee as well. Burnt bread accents with caramel undertones and a slight creaminess. Hops kick on the way down as it finishes somewhat dry.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with good carbonation, not as heavy and rich as most imperial stouts, however it's rather drinkable. Pretty good stout overall.
Overall I gave this one a rating of Enjoyable. Tasty stout!
Availability is from November to February. I found this in the mixed case that is sold at Costco (great deal at $24.99 and also features Cane & Ebel, Bitter End and Domaine DuPage), so you may have to wait a little longer for the regular release in six packs. Two Brothers distributes to Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Minnesota, and Massachusetts.
