Southampton Pumpkin Ale - 22oz bomber

My newest review comes from Southampton Publick House and brewer Phil Markowski. Located in Southampton, NY, this has been one of my favorite micro breweries for a long time now. They have recently began bottling a line of 22oz bombers featuring their 4 seasonal ales. Double White, Imperial Porter, May Bock and Pumpkin Ale make up the list. All of these are great brews, but today I'm focusing on the Pumpkin Ale.

Pours from the 22oz bomber into my glass a clear red-orange color...reminds me of fall and pumpkins for that matter. A nice half inch of bubbly eggshell head on top. Aromas start out with a nice caramelized pumpkin aroma alongside plenty of spiciness including cinnamon and nutmeg. A bit of burnt sugar...quite nice and reminds me of fall weather and pumpkin pie!!

First sip brings a flow of caramel pumpkin goodness right off the bat. It's followed by some brown sugar and a wonderful mix of spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon, and maybe even a touch of clove. It flows down with a hint of bitterness and a nice spicy finish that is so well balanced and not overwhelming at all. This is a damn tasty pumpkin ale in my opinion and I'm glad to have the opportunity to try it.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with a nice strong flow of carbonation. I enjoy drinking this brew and will easily finish the bomber off. A tasty pumpkin ale that ranks up there with the best ones I've sampled personally. I'll be seeking this one out again next year and hope to sample it a bit fresher when it comes out! Cheers once again to Southampton on a fine creation.

Overall I gave this fine brew a 4.3 out of 5.0 - A wonderful pumpkin ale.

I have to admit that I've not had the chance yet to sample Southampton's Pumpkin Ale. I do like to seek out and try to find the ultimate pumpkin ale each fall and so far, the closest I've found to perfect is Dogfish Head's Punk Ale. Smooth with spice, warming and aromatic in sync with the autumm season. A winner! If you get a chance, take a look at my review at Microbrew Review
